Veeam [[Software]] provides services and [[software]] for data protection, backup, and disaster recovery. This includes virtual, physical, and cloud-based SAAS applications. They have been doing so since 2006, and I have found their [[software]] effective, reliable, and trustworthy since I began using it in 2017.
## Core Product: Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam Backup & Replication is (arguably) their most well known and utilised piece of [[software]]. IT supports most hypervisors and infrastructure, including:
- VMware vSphere
- Microsoft Hyper-V
- Nutanix AHV
- Proxmox
- Though limited.
It can also perform basic desktop backups remotely through agents, if endpoints also need complex or robust backup solutions.
My favourite feature would likely be **Instant VM Recovery**
Rapid recovery of failed VMs directly from backup storage.
This is particularly helpful, as in a disaster scenario, being able to 'start' your workloads from backup almost immediately is crucial. Albeit with reduced storage performance.
Once things are online and running, you can automatically migrate from backup storage infrastructure to production, with minimal to no downtime.
I think Veeam is the only backup system I've used where I actually enjoyed it, and was happy with the result.
Which is probably a good thing, seeing as is is for disaster recovery.
## [[Experience]]
- Designed and implemented Veeam Backup & Replication solutions for virtual and physical infrastructure.
- Configured Scale-out Backup Repositories and integrated immutable storage for ransomware protection.
- Automated backup verification using SureBackup and orchestrated disaster recovery testing.
- Managed backup policies for hybrid cloud environments including Azure.
- Performed recovery operations including Instant VM Recovery and file-level restores.
- Monitored backup health and performance using Veeam ONE.
I would like to spend more time using the security scanning aspects of SureBackup. While I've tinkered with the automatic verification and recovery functions, I have not had a chance to use these more modern features in anger. Previous [[Experience]] assisting organisations recover from Ransomware or infrastructure failure has been with more basic Veeam managed environments, and all with the SureBackup features in use have not had cause to need them. Which is not something to complain about.
